Victorian Slate Roof Restoration
This project is a great example of the specialist roofing work BARL provides for Victorian and period properties. The existing slate roof was ageing and suffering from multiple leaks, cracked and damaged slates and poor insulation. More significantly, sections of the roof had begun to sag due to rotten roof rafters.
Structural Roof Repairs & Full Re-Roof
Before installing the new roof, BARL repaired, straightened and reinforced the existing timber roof frame.
Once structurally sound, we installed a new roofing system incorporating a vapour control layer and upgraded insulation before replacing the roof covering with premium traditional slate.
New Code 5 lead flashing was also installed to provide durable weather protection while maintaining the traditional appearance of the property.
Traditional Slate Roofing for Period Properties
The objective was to improve the roof without losing the character of the Victorian house.
Traditional slate and leadwork were therefore used to recreate a period-appropriate finish, while the upgraded insulation, vapour control and repaired roof structure brought the roof’s performance in line with current building regulations.
The full project took approximately 3–4 weeks.
